What is the difference between Wi-Fi and WiMAX?  

WiMAX technology allows providing higher-speed access to Internet and wider coverage and with stronger reliability as opposed to Wi-Fi networks.

 

Wi-Fi is the wireless communications technology to be used for short distances, for instance, in office building, café etc. The distance between Wi-Fi hot-spot and computer does not usually exceed tens of meters. WiMAX technology is the network of broadband wireless communications to be created on the territory of a whole city with the distance of many kilometers between the receiver and the base station.

 

 

What is the difference between Mobile WiMAX and Fixed WiMAX networks?  

Fixed WiMAX network envisage connection of services within the coverage area of certain base station. When moving from one area to another the connection will be interrupted and then get re-established. Mobile WiMAX network is based on 802.16e standard and will allow mobility from area to another without interruptions even with the moving speed of up to 150km/h (like in cellular phone networks).
